Messi wins La Liga monthly accolade for the first time ever

– Messi won the La Liga player of the month of January 2016
– The award has been running since September 2016
– Only one Barcelona player has won the award; Neymar in November 2015

Reigning FIFA Ballon D’or winner  Lionel Messi has been named as La Liga’s Player of the Month for the first time in his career.
Messi lifts his 5th FIFA player of the year award when he was awarded the FIFA Ballon D’or winner on January 11.
The award has been running since September 2013 but amazingly Messi is just claiming his first title despite winning two Ballon D’or in that time.

Barcelona’s official website noted that, this is only time Messi has picked up the monthly accolade while Neymar became the first Barcelona player to win the award in November 2015.

In January, Messi scored six goals in six league games, including a hat-trick against Granada in addition to strikes against Athletic Club, Malaga and, crucially, title rivals Atletico Madrid.
Messi has 12 league goals for the campaign despite missing two months with injury

Cash-strapped National Assembly has resorted to bank facilities to pay its staff their monthly salaries and allowances. But the facilities do not include the controversial running cost paid to lawmakers, as well as the salaries and allowances for their aides. About N4.5 billion is spent on the running cost of lawmakers in the two houses of the National Assembly. In anger last week, legislative aides rose in protest against the non-payment of their salaries and allowances. Several sources yesterday confirmed the resort to bank overdrafts to pay salaries of “strictly National Assembly staff,” but the Director of Information to the National Assembly, Mr. Ishaku Adamu Dibal, said he was not aware of the development that had happened at least twice in the past. It was gathered that August and September...
